Charade

A widow, a stranger with too many names, and a missing fortune in Paris.

Regina Lampert comes home from a ski holiday to find her apartment stripped bare and her husband dead. Three men from his wartime past believe she is hiding a quarter of a million dollars, and the only person offering help keeps changing his name. Equal parts thriller and romantic comedy, it is often described as the best Hitchcock film Hitchcock never made.

The original prints carried a defective copyright notice, so the film entered the US public domain on release.
